The New York Main Streets Program provides financial and technical assistance to preserve and revitalize mixed use downtown business districts. The Southwest Brooklyn has recently been awarded Main Streets funds to administer a Main Streets Program in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The overall goals of the program are to stimulate economic development within the context of historic preservation, enhance the physical appearance of the commercial district, and market the traditional districts assets to both customers and potential investors.
The Red Hook Main Street Program is available to qualifying businesses located between Visitation Place and Van Dyke Street along Van Brunt Street. Business/Property Owners are eligible to apply for matching funds for:
- Façade renovations that will restore or preserve original architecture elements or provide a consistent streetscape (Limited to $10,000 per building and requires a dollar for dollar match)
- Interior building renovations that will create or maintain jobs or businesses (Limited to $50,000 per building and requires a dollar for dollar match)
**Limited funds are also available for streetscape enhancements including; tree planting, street furniture, kiosks, information signage, trash bins, bike racks, and street lighting.
